December 13, 2011 - Robert "Bubba" Kapral
Here we go again -- another delay for the proposed Bellaire Toll Bridge demolition. This time bridge owners Delta Demolition and KDC Investments have asked for an extension as the deteriorating span was scheduled to be down by Dec. 21. That date cannot obviously be met. Thus, an attempt for more time. Unfortunately, I believe it will not be the last such request. I still hold firm the historic span will never come down. The latest snafu is due to issues dealing with the city of Benwood. Delta and Benwood officials still have some details to work out. That process has been going on for weeks. A court order in 2009 called for the bridge to be razed by Dec. 21, 2011. That date is only more lip service, which Bellaire and Benwood residents have grown all too accustomed to. The delay will likely be granted. Why not? There is no rush for the project's completion as it has already been decades playing out.
