Cancer Research Classic

January 4, 2012 - Seth Staskey
The lineup is set. The television cameras will begin arriving on Friday and some of the nation's premier high school basketball talent will be on display at Wheeling Jesuit University's Alma Grace McDonough Center in the fifth annual Cancer Research Classic.

The day-long basketball event tips off Saturday at 1 p.m. The premier game of the day is slated for 8 p.m. when Simeon, of Chicago, meets Miller Grove of suburban Atlanta. Simeon is led by the nation's premier junior Jabari Parker, who is drawing major college consideration from the premier programs across the country. Miller Grove is led by Tony Parker, who is considering Ohio State University for next season. That game will be broadcast on ESPN-2.

While that's the premier game, every game features countless future college and possibly professional players. If you remotely consider yourself a basketball fan, you'll not want to miss this day of hoops. It's cost and fan friendly and maybe most importantly, this will be a chance to learn about men's health as Dr. Greg Merrick uses basketball "as a vehicle to promote men's health."

It's about time that Ohio Valley fans get out and support this event. It's off the chart sports and players you'll only dream of seeing play on a random Tuesday and/or Friday night. There will come a time when you're sitting on you couch watching a college or NBA game and you'll hear names and someone will say that guy once played in Wheeling during the Cancer Research Classic. Don't be the guy who is kicking himself for missing these guys.
