MLB All-Star Game

July 11, 2012 - Seth Staskey
I am a big proponent of the MLB All-Star Game. I actually believe it's the best all-star event of the professional sports. I would rank NBA second because those guys, who play in that, do some absolutely ridiculous things that are amazing.

I say the MLB is the best for several reasons. For the most part, it's played like a regular game. Obviously, there are a lot of substitutions, but guys are laying it on the line for 9 innings. That's impressive. I realize that the MLB All-Star Game has the most riding on it since it determines who gets home field advantage for the World Series.

That's another reason I like it. It's meaningful. Make the other events -- outside of the Pro Bowl since it's after the season -- mean something for the sport down the road. Baseball is ahead of the curve in that regard.

One drawback to the MLB All-Star Game is it means two days -- after the game -- without baseball or basically any sports on television. It makes for some boring evenings and it sets in about the seventh inning of the all-star game that the next two days are going to be extremely long for the sports junkies (Like me).

The second half of the MLB season opens Friday and it will certainly be a welcome site.
