Something’s wrong with his medula oblongata!
October 9, 2012 - Michael Palmer
Despite my lack of expertise, and a few concussions, I am attempting to talk football again. First some whining about the 6-0 Buckeyes.
Mike Berardino once stated that Urban Meyer must be a terrible poker player. WRONG!
The Buckeyes beat California (2-4) 35-28, looked inept but managed to win against UAB (1-4) 29-15.
The Meyer era Ohio State team then squeaked by the Michigan State team by a single point relying on Braxton Miller’s 23 Carries, 136 Yard performance.
Then, suddenly a defense that struggled to contain the Blazers? shuts down the powerful Huskers O behind Cornerback Bradley Roby and defensive end John Simon and safety Christian Bryant forcing 4 turnovers along the way.
The three-and-out offense of week 3 working against the Black Shirts amazingly resurrects to rack up 63 points against Nebraska….. Hmmmm.
I would say Meyer is indeed a very good poker player, because he did not show his hand before the Big 10 schedule,
The O line was incapable of opening holes for our running backs against the Blazers and SHAZAM! - Blowing holes for Carlos Hyde he could have driven his SUV through.
I know that the Big 10 coaching staffs still on the schedule are feeling duped, but knowing that Meyer came from the evil empire in the Sunshine State should they have anticipated such chicanery?
There are probably as many NCAA coaches who are breathing a sigh of relief that the Tattoo Gate suspension will prevent this devious band of Scarlet and Grey from playing in the post season.
Our local teams will not be so limited and Division 4, Region 15 is smoking hot!
The Red Devils, Purple Riders and Huskies are all in the mix. Martins Ferry has lost key players , so far the Huskies and Red Devils are week 8 healthy. St. C. should run the table and then the test for our talented Red Devils squad.
The Big Reds win over Harrison Central may have clinched a berth in Division 5, Region 17 where they are currently sitting in the 5 slot, ahead of Ursuline at 7, the Youngstown team that just spanked Steubenville.
Division 6, Region 21 is another team which should go perfect, the Tigers. Shadyside just keeps on stepping up. With no super stars, the Tigers keep gutting it out to put up Ws and it is tough not to root for that kind of tenacity.
River has the opportunity o get back on track and while there are not many points left on the Pilots season schedule, they have the opportunity to get back into the playoffs. Shenandoah, Buckeye Trail and Frontier should provide the wins to propel the Pilots, perhaps to Whites Field to face the Green Wave.
This season should provide a lot of excitement for local fans in the post season. With three weeks left there could still be some surprises, it is an exciting time of the year and I can not wait!
See you on the sidelines!
