Here they come down the stretch!
October 15, 2012 - Michael Palmer
It is week 9 and time to talk playoffs!
Tell Kelly Rine to warm up the chili for week 11 because the Red Devils have clinched a home game in week 8.
The only undefeated in DIV Region 15, St. Clairsville will most likely play the number 8 team in the region in week 11, which is currently Harrison Central.
The Puple are currently at 7 in the same region and visit the Red Devils this week to renew the rivalry with their spoiler from last season. This might have been a battle royale if Martins Ferry were healthy, but the Purple Riders have been hit hard by injuries this season. It might still be a tough win for the Red Devils, but 10-0 is very likely for St. C.
If Ferry loses this week, they could still sneak back into the top 8 in the region with Zane Trace and Bloom Carroll sitting at 9 and 10 with 3-5 records, perhaps for a rematch with the Devils.
Harrison Central sits at 8 in the region and will garner few points this week at Union Local then has a trophy game with Buckeye Local. 7-3 might boost the Huskies into a home game, if so get some sand bags to hold the Huskies faithful from floating off into space.
Bellaire is back on track for week 11, with 2-6 Edison and a banged up Ferry squad left, they could finish 8-2. The Big Reds are sitting at 7 in a tough bracket, D V Region 17, with Ursuline (5-3) in the 6 spot, they are most likely packing the bus in three weeks and headed north.
Shadyside is another run the table team, with an 8-0 record and sitting at the 4 spot in D VI region 21. The Tigers have Bridgeport and Barnesville remaining, If they finish 10-0, they could earn a home game in week 11, with many familiar opponents in their bracket, it will be interesting.
River needs to win out to get a chance at the playoffs in D VI region 23. They have Buckeye Trail and Frontier, both winnable contests for the Pilots.
In DIII there are Indian Creek and Steubenville but no one has locked up a spot in Region 11.
This is my favorite time of year. Good luck to all the teams.
Hope we see you in three weeks.
