High School Football is Close
August 23, 2013 - Seth Staskey
Arguably the greatest time of the year is just under a week away. It's hard to believe, isn't it? It seems like just yesterday St. Clairsville was playing in the Division IV state title game against Clinton-Massie. We've made it through winter, spring, summer and here we are again anxiously awaiting the start of another prep football season.
It's going to be an interesting season because I'm just not sure there's a truly dominant team out there. I also don't know that there's truly a team that's really bad. I think a lot of games are going to be highly competitive and entertaining. That will make for some great Friday nights.
We know the players and coaches have been working hard for a few months to prepare for the opening week and beyond. It's important to keep in mind that the season doesn't hinge on this coming weekend. A win would be great, but a loss isn't the end of the world. Teams will go back to work and get better. Injuries are something once again that all teams -- regardless of their numbers -- are trying to avoid.
To further prepare for the season, The Times Leader's Pigskin Preview will publish next Tuesday, Aug. 27. It's a can't miss to prepare you for the season. The season gets under way Thursday with the McDonald's OVAC Kickoff games. A full slate is set for Friday and Saturday. From there, the race toward the postseason is officially on.
Enjoy the season, folks! I know we will!
See-ya at a local stadium on a Friday or Saturday.
