Hall of Honor

April 9, 2014 - Robert "Bubba" Kapral
The Martins Ferry Hall of Honor added its seventh class of inductees Sunday. It was the first time I ever attended the affair. It will not be the last for sure. The induction of Betty and Cal Pokas was my magnet. The Times Leader tandem are two of our profession's finest ever. Their induction was well deserved. The other inductees were all heavyweights in their respective professions and great contributors to Martins Ferry's legacy. The Purple City's rich history comes alive thanks to the efforts of the Hall of Honor Committee. Some 40 members are now in the hall. The last enshrinees all have glowing credentials. That speaks volumes of those who proceeded them into the hall. I am a huge fan of halls of fame/or honor. Paying tribute to outstanding fetes and accomplishments by individuals is a good thing. The Martins Ferry Hall of Honor Committee has gotten it right. It recognizes worthwhile individuals and does so in class fashion. State legislators and county leaders graced the festivities, offering eloquent words of praise and bearing gifts. Martins Ferry has fashioned the ideal template to properly honor individuals who help make Ferry the glorious community it is today.
