Draft Day---Good or Bad for the Cleveland Browns?

April 11, 2014 - Kim Collette
As a lover of almost all sports themed movies, you would think I would be super excited to see Draft Day about my beloved Cleveland Browns. The film, which opens nationwide today, portrays Kevin Costner as the Browns general manager, guiding the spectacle that has become the NFL draft day process. I have been hesitant about the movie so far. Will it be another thing in the media for Browns and Browns fans to take a beating for? Will it portray the city of Cleveland the right way? The other reason for hesitancy is the reviews I have read so far don't give the film much credit. But, who am I's about the Browns.....I will definitely see Draft Day even if the reviews are bad. However, the actual Cleveland Browns players were at a "red carpet" event for the movie and Brian Hoyer tweeted, "All football fans will enjoy it, especially Browns fans." Movies are great pieces of work. Everyone gets to experience them differently. And, most fans can reminisce about about their favorite sports movies.....Friday Night Lights, Remember the Titans, The Natural, Major League.....and Draft Day I am sure will be no different. Each person will relate differently. And, I am sure Browns fans will connect even more than just the average sports fan or NFL fan. Will Draft Day win any Oscars? Probably not. Will it be the top money grossing film of all-time? Probably not. But, sports movies can't be judged that way. Sports movies leave permanent impressions on the folks who see them. And, I am sure that this will leave an impression on Browns fans....whether it be good or bad. Go Browns!
