School Year Winding Down
April 20, 2014 - Seth Staskey
It's quite evident that the school year is winding down. Not only are proms going on, graduation announcements are about to sent out, but the spring sports OVAC Championships gets under way this week. It's hard to believe that the season is already to that point, but once the games start going in the spring, it simply flies by. I know people think football goes the fastest, but the spring is incredible because baseball and softball teams are basically playing every day of the week.
The first OVAC cut-off date comes Wednesday for the baseball tournament. Those games will count in the standings. The brackets for the 5-class tournament will set and the semifinals will be played at the higher seeds home field on Saturday.
Saturday also serves as the final day of the softball regular season. Those brackets will be set on Sunday and all five classes will hold their semifinals at the Chambers I-470 Complex in Elm Grove on April 29 and 30. The finals for the softball and baseball will both be held on May 3.
Once those are decided, the stage turns completely to track and field. The five-class, five day meet opens at St. Clairsville's Red Devil Stadium on May 5 with qualifying rounds. Qualifying will go on through Thursday. The meet takes Friday off and the championships will be held on May 10.
Oh by the way, need further proof that the school year is winding down? On that May 10th, softball and baseball begins its postseason with sectional play.
