He's Back

July 18, 2014 - Kim Collette
I wanted to wait a week and let it sink in. Is it really happening? LeBron James made "The Decision 2.0." He is coming home. And, while I have never been a big fan of James', I think this decision was the right one to make. In his Sports Illustrated article James said, "Before anyone ever cared where I would play basketball, I was a kid from Northeast Ohio. It’s where I walked. It’s where I ran. It’s where I cried. It’s where I bled. It holds a special place in my heart. People there have seen me grow up. I sometimes feel like I’m their son. Their passion can be overwhelming. But it drives me. I want to give them hope when I can. I want to inspire them when I can. My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didn’t realize that four years ago. I do now." I feel like LeBron didn't truly understand how much his decision to leave 4 years ago crushed the hearts of Cleveland fans. For us, it was more than being the jokes of professional sports. Cleveland fans are diehard, loyal fans who live and die with their teams. It was heart breaking. His decision to come back to the area he grew up in shows me that he gets that all now...he doesn't even need to win a championship this time around and the fans will forgive him. Years ago we were all "Witnesses." Now I do believe the saying is "Witness the Forgiveness". Not only did LeBron show he crew up and matured, he is making Cleveland cool again. We are no longer "The Mistake on the Lake." It was great that the Browns drafted Johnny Manziel. He immediately impacted the way people were talking about Cleveland and the Browns. But this is bigger. LeBron will get athletes to want to play in Cleveland in all sports. He will get money flowing again in the area. I probably won't ever come out and say I am a huge LeBron James fan. But, I am a fan of his decision to "Come Home." I am a fan of Cleveland. I am a fan of the people and fans of the city. I am rooting for Cleveland!
