It's Coming ...
August 17, 2014 - Seth Staskey
Many things are coming, but few catch the Ohio Valley's attention like high school football. The season begins in less than two weeks and other fall sports get into full swing this week.
Football is simply a way of life in the Ohio Valley. The thing that people wake up on Friday morning waiting for and then spend Saturday morning rehashing everything they took in on Friday. Along with being sporting entertainment, a lot of times football games are the biggest social attraction in many communities. You go to the football game to see people.
On the field, it should be another solid season. We've spent the last couple of weeks meeting with coaches and taking pictures for our Pigskin Preview, which publishes on Tuesday, Aug. 26. From what I've seen, Martins Ferry appears to have a very solid squad and Shadyside should be quality once again. There are many teams that you can basically put in a hat and draw names out. There could be a lot of entertaining games around the area because of the parity and balance.
As you continue to prepare for the season, I offer my yearly advice. Once the foot hits the ball on Thursday, Aug. 28, don't blink because the season will be gone before you know it.
