| | Are you ready for Black FridayNovember 12, 2010 - Mike HughesBecause I'm not and I have no intention of being so. More power to you all who dare venture into a toy store or near the mall or Highlands the day after Thanksgiving. That's a slice of insanity I want no part of. Although I'm sure as I get older and my daughter realizes what the in-demand toys are and decides she wants one, I'll have to brave the madness. Thankfully, we have yet to reach that point. But seriously, what is it about Christmas shopping that makes normally sane and friendly people into complete nutjobs who have no concern for their fellow man, or woman. Christmas is a time to celebrate, to be with family, to honor the birth of Jesus Christ (in case you missed that Christ part of Christmas). But peace on earth cannot be found when the latest rendition of an Elmo doll is on the shelves and shoppers, hungering for that great buy, are waiting at the storefront. People have been severely injured in storefront stampedes on Black Friday. Is that really necessary? All I can say is best of luck to you. I'll be waiting, as usual, until about two weeks before Christmas before I dare set for in a store. Hopefully by that time, all the crazy people will have exhausted their holiday shopping funds and will have vacated the shopping premises.
