CHASING THE CHECKERED
Whew! A lot has happened in the racing circles since we talked last week. Man. Where to start? Let’s begin with Tony Stewart bolting Joe Gibbs Racing to become a 50-percent owner of a team that will be known as Stewart-Haas Racing, which he will also drive for. I guess unrestricted free agency is hitting NASCAR with all the switching of drivers and teams. Is Stewart’s departure from JGR due mainly in part to the ultra success that Kyle Busch has enjoyed with JGR this season? I don’t know for sure, but there could be a little bit of jealously there because we know how big all these guy’s egos are. Then again, it could just be that Stewart is looking at the big picture and his long-range plans. Stewart has piloted the No. 20 car for JGR since Valentine’s Day in 1999, some 338 races. There’s been both good times, and bad, but one thing is for sure.
