Guarding Youth
PROTECTING THE well-being of our youth and safe guarding the innocence that goes with such an impressionable time of life should know no boundaries. Proposed legislation in Ohio works toward that end. Gov. Ted Strickland is poised to sign a human trafficking bill this week that will result in much harsher punishment for crimes such as kidnapping that assists human trafficking. We are in line with such legislation and Strickland's support of it. The bill stems from the ever-increasing sex trade activity in northwest Ohio, but will be broad based to help protect youths across the state. The legislation establishes a long overdue "human trafficking" specification. Such a specification would help drop a heavier hammer on criminals, calling for much tougher prison sentences for persons convicted of such heinous crimes.
