School Peace
THE SHADYSIDE School District ushered in peace this week. That dose of good news came to fruition Wednesday when the district's board of education voted to approve a new contract with the Shadyside Education Association. The SEA approved the two-year deal last week. The happy conclusion puts to end lengthy and sometime volatile negotiations, which included the filing of a 10-day strike notice by the teachers. Fortunately, level heads prevailed and a possible walkout was averted. Teacher strikes, be it of any length, leave scars which are never removed. That is why it was so vital for both sides to come to this amicable accord. The contract provides SEA members with some of the financial advancements they were requesting. Along those same lines, the monetary terms of the contract do not create hardship for the district, which is still dealing with the loss of a levy at the November ballot.
