Exhibit opening at Toy & Train Museum
The Kruger Street Toy & Train Museum in Wheeling will be hosting the temporary exhibit “The Revival of Marklin”. The exhibit, which runs from July 19 through Oct. 26, features the Marklin trains of the late Walter P. Griffith, Sr. of California. At the end of WWII, Griffith, an officer in the Army Air Corps, assisted in the reconstruction of Germany and the area under his command included the Marklin factory. In gratitude for his efforts on their behalf, the management of Marklin presented him with some of the first HO trains that they made after the war. The exhibit looks at the Marklin HO trains of Griffith, but also delves into his military work and career, the HO layout that he maintained while stationed in Germany in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, and his family life. Also, on Saturday, July 19 from 9 a.m. to noon, a special reception and unveiling party for the exhibit will be held at the museum. George Griffith, son of Walter, and his wife will be in attendance.
