A deal is a deal. An election is an election. Winners win and losers must come back for another day.......

beach1 - keep in mind that Lucas is a lifelong dem. He only switched parties to run as a rep. because he couldn't beat Fred Thompson in the dem. primary. That may show that Lucas would do nearly anything to get elected. If he can show that he met all qualifications to run, then fine. If not, he should be thrown out of office. Do you really want someone enforcing the law and being an example to law enforcement throughout the county if they can't prove that they followed the letter of the law themselves and legally met the requirements to become elected in the first place?

His qualifications have been proven to be accurate twice before so stop beating a dead horse and wasting tax payers money. Besides..Dick Flanagan did not have the majority of the votes to win anyway. So even if Dave Lucas wasn't Sheriff Dick Flanagan shouldn't be either! God forbid Sheriff Lucas would have to step down the Republican party better come up with another canidate because the majority of Belmont County didn't vote for Flanagan the first time around and won't a second time as well! Look at his background....pretty shady.

@ Beach, I'm an independent, so I look at things on both sides of the political spectrum. The way I see it, if the republicans can spend years harping on Obama to force him to show his long form birth certificate since seeing the short form wasn't enough for them, I think the dems. have every right to ask this man if he truly has the proper credentials to be sheriff, and to have him produce the proof that he does meet the qualifications to hold that position.

This is very simple ... either he met the qualifications and should remain as sheriff or he did not meet the qualifications. If he did NOT meet the legal qualifications, he should not serve as sheriff.

There is no doubt in my mind that Mr. Lucas would serve as the Sheriff adequately but that has no bearing on this situation. This has nothing to do with being a sore loser or politics of Belmont County. It is simply a matter of qualifications - PERIOD!!!!

Just like all the repeated claims that were made in the Lance Armstrong case which finally proved to be accurate, where there's smoke, there's fire!
