November 18, 2008
Times Leader

Union Local football coach Mark Cisar, joined by the members of the Union Local football team, will lead Flushing's "Home for Christmas" parade as they fill the role of Grand Marshall. The Jets' cheerleaders will be on hand to accompany the team and add a touch of school spirit to the day.

The "Home for Christmas" theme will begin on Friday, Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. with the fifth annual Community Tree Lighting. The evening events, held at the fire hall, will include a performance by the Flushing Community Choir, a reading of "The Night Before Christmas" by Dottie Marshall and participation by the Flushing Scouts.

Hot chocolate will be provided by the Flushing Fire Department and cookies will be abundant, baked by the ladies of the Flushing area churches and the Flushing Senior Citizens. The Flushing Garden Club will prepare special gift bags for all children ages seven and under.

Following the lighting of the town tree, generously donated by the Wierzbicki Tree Farm of St.Clairsville, a Christmas singalong will take place as the evening activities draw to a close.

All area residents and businesses are invited to take part in the Flushing Christmas Parade, which will be held on Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. Line up will begin at 10 a.m. at Schuler Park. Lucky parade attendees may catch a mini football donated by Warren Funeral Home and thrown by their local football team members. Breakfast with Santa, sponsored by the Flushing Area Ruritan, has been scheduled at St. Paul's Catholic Church from 8-10 a.m. The craft show will be held throughout the morning at the Fire Hall where the annual auction will be held following the parade. Refreshments will be available at both the Fire Hall and the Masonic Building.

Carrying out the "Home for Christmas" holiday theme, Jack Marlin, Elvis Impersonator, will entertain parade goers with "I'll Be Home for Christmas" and other musical selections throughout the parade. The entertainment will be held in the town square.
