Recently, nine students from New Covenant Academy participated in the District 16 Science Fair held at Belmont Technical College. This is a four countywide event that included 70 students from 10 participating schools.
Students receiving Superior ratings were: Alyssa Crowley and Stephanie Grindley; sixth grade: Trent Ciechomski, Jarret Helms and Brandi Reitter; seventh and eighth grade students, Juan Dunlap and Graham Hart. Receiving Excellent awards were: Damon Burghy and Garrett Hart, sixth grade. In addition, Damon Burghy, Alyssa Crowley, Stephanie Grindley and Garrett Hart earned the Award for Excellence in a sixth grade project.
Several students earned extra awards presented by various sponsors. Juan Dunlap, eighth grade, captured the Belmont Technical College Award for Statistical Analysis. Trent Ciechomski, seventh grade, earned two special awards, the Governor's Award for Excellence in Manufacturing Sciences Research and the M. J. Piccin & Associates Award in Physics. Brandi Reitter was granted the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh Award in Medicine & Health. Alyssa Crowley, sixth grade, was given the Belmont Technical College Award in Botany.

Juan, Graham, Trent, Jarret and Brandi have also qualified for the Ohio Science Days State Competition held on May 9, in Columbus.
