THE OHIO River Valley Elks Lodge #231 of Martins Ferry would like to announce that Alonna Ackerman has been named the Teen of the Month award winner for December. She is a senior of Martins Ferry High School is ranked #1 in the class with a GPA of 4.429. She is the daughter of Terry and Lori Ackerman of Martins Ferry.
Ackerman plans to attend college, achieve a degree in dentistry and raise a family. She also would like to teach cross country running and run her own marathon. Her hobbies are cross country, music, performing, singing and writing, and loves to bowl and tutor.
Ackerman stays active in the community. She assists with Vacation Bible School and Beginners worship at her church. She is also a volunteer at Wheeling Hospital, a Peer Tutor at school and donates her time to the Red Cross, Soap Box Derby and sings in the Community Choir.
Ackerman is involved in many school activities. She is the Chaplin of the National Honor Society; a five-year member of the Cross Country team, plays various instruments in the Martins Ferry Band and is involved with the school Theatre. She is a member of the Chy-Phy, Spanish Club, Student Council and the Renaissance Program; a member of the Hugh O'Brian Leadership Program and the bowling and track and field teams; a member of the OVMC All-Star Marching Band, West Liberty Tri-State Honor Band, School Chorus and the Wheeling Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Ackerman is so deserving of this award and is now eligible to win a $2,000 scholarship to the college of her choice. The Elks congratulate her on this award and wish her the best of luck in her future plans.
