Army Staff Sgt. Shawn E. Barber was part of a support team made up of soldiers from throughout the Army for the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The Army sponsored the nationally-televised football game played on January 9th at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
This was the Army's 10th year as sponsor of the high school all-star game that pits the best players in the nation against each other in an East versus West contest. The soldiers' support ranged from coordinating events with players and soldier-heroes to providing media coordination, hotel accommodations and organizing and orchestrating pre-game activities. In this year's match-up, the West team managed to outscore the East team, 30-14.
Barber, a psychological operations specialist, is assigned to the 9th Psychological Operations Battalion, Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, N.C. He has served in the military for nine years.
He is the son of Mary Barber, and William McKellar, both of Allison Park, Pa.
His wife, Renee Barber is the daughter of Debra Elliot of Bridgeport.
The staff sergeant is a 1999 graduate of Hampton High School, Allison Park.
