SHADYSIDE — The story of local resident, Wilbert Miller, 73, of Shadyside was selected to be featured in the 2011 Success Story Calendar for Select Medical Corporation.
Select Medical Corporation operates 89 Long Term Acute Care Hospitals through out the country.
These hospitals provide specialized care to patients with chronic critical illnesses, those who need a longer acute stay due to their illness, multiple injuries, trauma or medical complications.
Each year Select puts together a calendar featuring the stories of patients whose lives have been impacted as a result of the care they have received.
Mr. Miller was a patient at the Select Specialty Hospital in Zanesville following injuries he received after a fall from his tractor trailer.
Because those injuries occurred near Louisville, Kentucky, he was transferred by air ambulance to Zanesville Select to be closer to his family home as he recovered.
Mr. Miller’s injuries were extensive and complicated by respiratory failure and pneumonia.
He required a tracheostomy and he required intensive critical care.
After several weeks the pneumonia began to improve and the respiratory therapy team at Select was able to successfully wean him off mechanical ventilation.
Mr. Miller had a long and extended course at Select Specialty Hospital but attributes the tender, loving care he received to the success of his recovery.
Following his stay at Select, he was able to be transferred to a Rehab facility closer to his home in Shadyside.
These days Wilbert Miller can be found tooling around Shadyside in his newly outfitted golf cart or joining his fishing buddies for trips to Lake Erie.
