BRIAN MENGEU joined the U.S. Navy on Aug. 2, 1988 following graduation from Wheeling Park High School. Originally stationed in Newport News, Va., with the pre-commission unit of USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72 becoming a Plank Owner of the ship. He served four years on the USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72 during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and was also involved in Operation Fiery Vigil, civilian evacuation during the eruption of Mt. Pinitubo in the Philippines.

Mengeu joined the Navy Reserves in 1992 in Moundsville, where he was awarded Sailor of the Year 2000. He transferred to the SURGEMAN unit in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 2005. He was promoted to Hull Technician Chief Petty Officer (HTC) in September 2007 and was recently promoted to Hull Technician Senior Chief Petty Officer (HTCS) in April 2010.

Mengeu is the son of Bob and Pattie Mengeu of Bethlehem. He graduated cum laude from Point Park University, Pittsburgh, Pa. in May 2001, and is employed as plant manager with Turf Care Supply in Martins Ferry. He resides in Wheeling with his wife, Lisa, and daughters, Olivia, 7 and Alyssa, 4 1/2.
