Local teens recognized

THE OHIO River Valley Elks Lodge would like to announce the two Teen of the Month Award winners for November. They are Chelsea Lucas, the daughter of Charles and Sharon Lucas of Martins Ferry. She is a senior at Martins Ferry High School and is ranked 4th in her class with a 4.154. The second student is Alexis Sharpe, the daughter of John and Cindy Sharpe, who is a senior at St. John's High School. She is ranked first in her class with a GPA of 4.0.

Lucas is a member of the National Honor Society of which she is a vice president, Chy-Phy(secretary) and the Spanish Club. She is a Football Little Sister, played basketball for four years, golf for two years, track team two years and won the All-Conference Academic Award. She has volunteered with the N.H.S. for three American Red Cross Blood Drives and the Wheeling Italian Festival. She has volunteered for four years at Wheeling Hospital and two summers of Wheeling Hospital Safety Town. She is the treasurer of the O.V.A.C. Varsity Board and has been awarded the Chamber of Commerce Jr. Citizenship Award.

Lucas plans to attend Ohio University and major in the medical field. She like to camp, do crafts, ski, boat, shoot, golf and bake.

Sharpe plans on getting a degree in accounting or medical technology. She like to cook, bake, fish and hang with friends and family.

She is a member of the National Honor Society (Treasure), member of "Who's Who of American Students, All Conference Academic Team and Ohio Valley Athletic Conference, three year member of the Foreign Language Club and four year member of the Interact Club. She has played three years of varsity softball and volleyball. She has one year of the Science Club and has been a Mentor for two years.

Sharpe has been an altar server at her church, employed at the local Dairy Queen and has contributed over 100 hours of volunteering at the areas of the church, community and school.

The Elks would like to congratulate these two ladies on their award. We wish them the best of luck with their future plans. Both are eligible now to be named Teen of the Year by the Elks which would give them a chance at winning a $2,000 scholarship.
