HARRISON COUNTY Relay for Life has been set for June 10 and 11 at Dr. James Z. Scott Field in Scio.

Relay For Life gives people of all ages, races and backgrounds the opportunity to come together to not only raise income, but to take a united stand in the fight to save lives from cancer.

Relay is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs for the American Cancer Society. During the event teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, parks and other designated sites and take turns walking or running laps.

Teams of 10 to 15 people are currently being formed by the Society. Teams consist of co-workers, friends, family members and others. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.

Relay For Life is more than just a fundraiser. It's a life-changing experience. At Relay, every person in the community has a chance to celebrate, remember and fight back. And every person who participates joins others around the globe as part of this worldwide movement to end cancer.

Everyone's reason to Relay is as unique as their own personal story. At Relay you find healing, comfort and support from others who have faced cancer or who have lost a loved one to the disease. Also, there is a chance to meet people in the community who are equally as passionate about finding an end to cancer.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.

"No matter why you take part in Relay, one thing is clear: with every step you take, you are helping the American Cancer Society save lives," said Shannon Ealy, the Regional Income Development Director of the Northeast Ohio Region American Cancer Society.

"With everyone's help, we aren't just fighting one type of cancer we're fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community," Ealy added. "Each person who shares the Relay experience can take pride in knowing that they are working to create a world where this disease will no longer threaten the lives of our loved ones or claim another year of anyone's life."

The Harrison County is currently planning a Longaberger Basket Bingo and are also selling candy bars.

All proceeds will help with expenses.
