Harrison?Relay for Life fundraiser on tap

HARRISON County Relay for Life will sponsor a fund-raiser tomorrow, Feb. 13, at Bob Evans in Steubenville from 10 a.m. 9 p.m.

During the event, for those with a flyer, the restaurant will donate 15 percent of the sale to Relay for Life. Also, don't forget the daffodil orders are due on Feb. 19.

The next meeting for the Relay for Life committee is set for Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the Puskarich Public Library. Team captains will meet at 6:30 p.m.

A BIT of California is headed to Harrison County.

Submarine, California Subs, is set to soon open in the former KFC/Taco Bell location on Lincoln Ave., Cadiz.

The building is currently undergoing renovations and the eatery with a West Coast twist is expected to move in once the work is completed.

According to its Web site, the restaurant first offered its brand of subs in 1976 in San Diego. The menu will most likely offer a variety of sandwiches. The franchise has restaurants in California, Michigan, Tennessee, New York and Georgia with plans to expand into Texas.

The building became empty when KVF/Taco Bell vacated the premises in September.

The Jewett Ruritans will sponsor a Free Blood Pressure and Diabetes Screening on Saturday, Feb. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those interested may come to Woods Food Center in Jewett. Free refreshments will be served. Your health is important, they are asking to please come and join them.

THE CADIZ Volunteer Fire Department is holding a breakfast from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the basement of the firehall on North Main Street in Cadiz.

Come out and support your volunteers!

THE AREA Agency of Aging, Region 9 will offering five sessions in March aimed at the in-home, unpaid family caregiver.

Each session is free and open to the public. Caregivers must register by contacting Laurel DuBeck RN at 800-932-7277 ext. 4719.

Sessions include "Caregiving in the home ... Now What?" on March 3, 1-2 p.m.; "Bringing Services into the Home," March 10, 1-2 p.m.; "Moving, Lifting and Transferring," March 17, 1-2 p.m.; "Stress and Burnout in Caregiving," March 24, 1-2 p.m.; "Living with Alzheimers ... What Every Caregiver Should Know," March 31, 1-3 p.m.

All sessions will be held in the classroom at Harrison Community Hospital on East Market St., Cadiz. Materials and resources will be offered at each session.

Interested individuals may attend the sessions of their choice.

THE HOPEDALE Baseball Association will hold signups at the Hopedale Fire Department lounge for those children ages 4-14 on Feb. 18, 6-7:30 p.m. and Feb. 19, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Costs will be as follows: T-Ball, ages 4-5, $25 per child; Coach Pitch, ages 6-8, $30 per child; ages 9 and up, $45 per child.

Parents or guardians should bring the child's birth certificate, family physician, hospital preference, medical history and a list of medications.

DEERSVILLE Community Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Valentine's Day spaghetti dinner today, Feb. 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can eat for the cost of a love offering.

THE ARCHER Township Board of Trustees will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the township hall.

The trustees have announced that Chesapeake Oil representatives plan to attend the gathering to discuss road use in the township.

DON'T FORGET Monte Carlo Night at the New Athens Volunteer Fire Department on Feb. 19.

Doors are scheduled to open at 6 p.m. Food and beverages will be provided. The top prize is $500.
