THE OHIO State Highway Patrol has announced the suspension of drivers testing in Harrison County until further notice.
Harrison is part of a five-county area serviced by the state's Mobile Drivers Examination Station and due to mechanical problems the mobile DX is out of service. Other counties in the service area include Holmes, Morgan, Monroe and Noble.
In a press release, Lieutenant J.D. LaRoche of the St. Clairsville Post Commander of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said persons wishing to take written examinations or to schedule driving tests should do so at one of the following facilities in Bridgeport, Cambridge, Marietta, New Philadelphia, Wintersville, Wooster and Zanesville. These facilities are open Tuesday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Drivers test can also be scheduled online by visiting www.ohiodrivingtest.com.
All written testing is handled on a walk-in basis.
THE HARRISON Military Support Group is currently asking area bakers to supply them with the ultimate treat ... homemade cookies! All the donated treats will be sent to military personnel from Harrison County who are serving over seas.
The support group and volunteers will be packing boxes which will include the cookies on April 5, beginning at 6 p.m. Cookies may be dropped off at that time or those interested in donating prior to that evening may call Terry or Sue Stewart at 740-942-3542.
Don't forget ... assistance in packing the boxes is also needed and the group also welcome monetary donations to help with mailing costs. It is a very fulfilling experience and is appreciated by those receiving the boxes as well as by those who prepare the "gifts from home" for our local heroes.
A CABBAGE roll dinner will be held today at the Adena American legion Post 535 from 1 - 6 p.m. The event is being sponsored by the Sons of the Legion. Cost is $7 for each dinner consisting of cabbage rolls, mashed potatoes, corn, roll and a dessert. Call the Legion for more information.
MEMBERS OF the Hopedale Volunteer Fire Department has an ongoing fund raiser: a monthly gun giveaway!
The drawing his held the second Sunday monthly. Tickets are $5 each with only 100 tickets being sold each month.

ARE YOU looking for a great place to eat tomorrow. Stop in at the Deersville Community Volunteer Fire Department for a ham and scalloped potato dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meal will also feature green beans, applesauce, roll, dessert and beverages.

THE ADENA Heritage Festival Committee will host a spaghetti dinner on Sunday from 12 - 3 p.m. at the Adena Community Center. Cost is $7 per dinner which features spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. The meal is being served eat-in or carry-out. Call 740-546-3946 for all the details.
"FLY AWAY on the Wings of Fashion" on Tuesday, April 5, during the Harrison Community Hospital Auxiliary's annual Spring Style Show.
The event will be held at Wallace Lodge, Sally Buffalo Park, Cadiz, and will begin at 6:30 p.m. featuring clothing from Anna-Kay's Unique Fashions of Steubenville.
Tickets are available at the hospital's gift shop for a $15 donation and includes a dinner and chances at various doorprizes. In addition, a raffle will also be held.
All proceeds benefit the auxiliary and it's support of the hospital.
THE JEWETT Museum will have it's annual Night at the Races on Saturday, April 16, with doors opening at 6 p.m., $5 will get you in the door and pay for your food, beverages and a chance to pretend bet on horse racing for a good cause.
ATTENTION LADIES and gentlemen! It is time for the 61st annual minstrel show in Adena. NEXT SATURDAY'S Lucas D. Sedgmer Memorial Scholarship Sportsmans Feast will be the fifth event for the program which provides financial assistance to local high school graduates who wish to further their educations.
Doors for the event will open at 3 p.m. and food service is scheduled to commence at 4 p.m. Throughout the day, door prizes will be awarded with the final prize awarded at 9 p.m.
In addition, a corn hole tournament is planned along with both live and silent auctions.
Various raffles will be held with numerous chances at winning hunting items including guns, a flat screen television, chain saw, and much more.
Music will be provided by DJ JT and t-shirts will be sold.
