ST. CLAIRSVILLE - There is no place like home.
That is the sentiment Dr. David Edwards and his wife, the former Chelseas Ballint of Martins Ferry, both felt when they began their journey back to the good old Ohio Valley following a short stint in the Columbus area.
"We really love the people and the closeness that is here in the Ohio Valley" claimed Edwards. "When the opportunity to open this clinic came about, we immediately realized that we were extremely blessed and could not wait to move back to the valley."
Not only did the Edwards couple grow up on the river front, they were high school sweet hearts at Martins Ferry High School. Their story reads more like a Hollywood drama than real life. Chelsea is a former Purple Rider cheerleader and homecoming queen and her handsome groom is a former Rider athlete.
Edwards continued, "We have close relationships with our family and friends in the valley and we wanted to be able to give back to the place that has made such a strong impression on us. I wanted to be able to bring one-on-one, manual physical therapy and first class quality treatment home. It also gives Chelsea and me the opportunity to raise our children where work ethic, strong morals and character still mean something."
Mrs. Edwards is an income development representative for the American Cancer Society. She manages "Relay For Life" events in Belmont, Guernsey, Muskingum and Coshocton counties. "We are so excited to be home and doing what we love," claimed Chelsea. "It has been our dream and ambition to raise our family in the Ohio Valley. We are lucky to both have careers that allow us to give back an help others right here at home."
Edwards' company is Physiotherapy Associates. It is the nation's foremost provider of outpatient rehabilitation services.
His clinic has recently opened in St. Clairsville. It offers a comprehensive range of physical therapy services, including: hand therapy, health and wellness, sports injury rehabilitation, industrial rehabilitation, pre-op rehabilitation, vestibular rehabilitation, pediatric programs, injury prevention and foot/ankle.
A unique quality of Keystone Physical Therapy is offering same and next day appointments. Morning, afternoon and evening times will be held in order to fit the patients needs.
David J. Edwards, PT, DPT graduated from Wheeling Jesuit University with a Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy. He places a strong emphasis on hands-on manual therapy with his patients including a variety of manual techniques such as muscle energy, joint mobilization, myofascial release, and strain/counter strain. David also feels it is important to evaluate the entire kinetic chain when considering treatment for an orthopedic/sports injury.
"I was a high school athlete and know how important it is to treat not just the symptoms, but the entire athlete. Athletes want to get back to competition quickly and I feel my practice will be of great benefit to the athletes in the OVAC."
Even though he loves to work with athletes, his practice is not limited to sports rehabilitation. David has had advanced continuing education in the following: treatment of orthopedic/sports related knee conditions, foot/ankle conditions, vestibular rehabilitation, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, manual/muscle energy for the lumbar spine and sacrum, orthopedic/sports related shoulder injuries and manual techniques for the cervical spine.
Dr. Edwards stated, "I am excited about the opportunity to care for residents of the Ohio Valley and to further expand our brand of individualized high-quality physical therapy services to even more people in the area."
Edwards' new company has full faith in the home-town doctor. "We are proud to have a footprint established in St. Clairsville. Dr. Edwards is an accomplished clinician with a great back ground in orthopedics and manual therapy," said Frank Kula, MPT, ATC, area vice president of western Pennsylvania and Ohio for Physiotherapy Associates.
Kula added, "The Keystone clinicians offer physical therapy services for patients in and around St. Clairsville who want to get back to a healthy lifestyle. Our one-on-one care is unmatched, and we look forward to making this goal happen."
Pete Grabaskas, PT, COO of Physiotherapy Associates, stated, "Our Ohio family of clinics continues to grow with the addition of the St. Clairsville facility. We continue to open clinics like the one in St. Clairsville to reach patients that want to lead healthy lives. This clinic will offer the local community a broad range of outstanding physical therapy services."
