Peach festival unfolds at?Tappan Lake

THINGS WILL be just "peachy" when the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church on Tappan Lake holds its annual peach festival.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. on Aug. 5 and runs until 7 p.m. that evening.

Folks will be able to enjoy this delightful fruit fresh and also in ice cream. Other foods offered that evening will be hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, sloppy joes, salads and other desserts.

A free will offering will be taken.

A FUND RAISER will be held today to benefit the Harrisville Hunted Walk which has become a yearly event for the community.

Activities are set to begin at 1 p.m. and will conclude at 11 p.m. and will be held at the Harrisville Park.

Food, fun and games along with musical entertainment will be available with a corn hole tournament beginning at 3 p.m. Sing-ups for the tournament will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a $5 person registration fee.

Face painting will be provided by Ashley Delmello with John Kazemka doing balloon animals. Music will be by Jungleman D.J. Services and bands, including Lost Chapter, Influence of Anger, Jim Yoss & Wyatt Yoss (of the Ben Davenport Band) and Savannah Coffield, will begin playing at6:30 p.m.

CALHOON'S KARAOKE Splash is set for Sunday from 2 5 p.m. at the Jewett Community Center.

Hosted by Calvin Stull, the event is focused on family. Music will by provided by Five Star entertainment and all proceeds will benefit the Jewett Wildcat Community Center.

Admission is free. A concession stand will be available.

Donations may be made at the door.

PROPERTY OWNERS in Harrison County have until July 28, 2011 to pay the second half 2010 tax, according to Treasurer Vicki Sefsick.

"My office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday," Sefsick said. "Tax payers may also mail their payments to the office at 100 West Market St. in Cadiz."

In addition, owners of manufactured homes have until Aug. 4 to submit their taxes to the treasurer's office.

Those with questions should call the office between regular hours at 740-94-8867.

CONGRATULATIONS GO to Harrison County Juvenile-Probate Judge Matthew Puskarich who was recently elected as secretary of the Ohio Juvenile Judges Association.

Puskarich has served with the association for the past seven years and said he is excited about the opportunity after being sworn in by Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor.

The association includes juvenile and domestic relations judges from around the state with two trustees from each district serving on the executive board.

President Theresa Dellick of Mahoning County leads the association while Anthony Capizzi of Montgomery County is vice president and Debra Boros of Lorain County serves as treasurer. The association has 124 members.

ACCORDING TO officials of the Harrison County Board of Elections, two organization will be asking for the public's support on the fall ballot.

The Harrison County Ohio State University Extension Office has placed a 0.75-mill, five-year additional levy on the ballot and the County Home is seeking to renew its 1.5-mill operational levy.

The election will be held Nov. 8.

GRADUATES OF Cadiz High School will hold the alumni dinner/dance on Aug. 13 at the Hopedale Social Hall. Reservations are due by Aug. 1 at a cost of $20 per person with an option to attend the dance only at $10 per person.

Honored classes will be 1961 and 1986.

THE SCIO American Legion Post 482 will host Jammin For Joplin show on July 30 with all proceeds to benefit the victims of the spring tornadoes that devastated the city of Joplin, Missouri through their American Legion.

Music will be provided by Jim Yoss and the Ben Davenport Band.

THE SCOTT United Methodist Church in Cadiz will host Tom Myer, who will present the book of Revelation dramatically from memory on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public.
