ST. CLAIRSVILLE Nancy Ellison has been helping Ohio Valley pet owners to groom and style their four-legged friends for the last four years.
Ellison recently decided it was time to go into business for herself and hit the road to offer her services to area residents.
NANCY ELLISON of Nan’s Barks and Bubbles can bring her mobile pet grooming unit to your driveway and provide a full-service grooming for your dog in about an hour. Barks and Bubbles currently serves the Belmont County and Wheeling areas.
After having her van completed outfitted by Wag'n Tails, Ellison began operating her mobile grooming service, Nan's Barks and Bubbles, much to the delight of area pet owners.
What has been one of the best parts thus far, according to Ellison? Being able to give the dogs her full, undivided attention.
"It's really one-on-one,'' she said. "I know when I'm in the shop, the telephone is always ringing, people are stopping by and you constantly have to stop and put the dog down.
"It only takes me about an hour a dog because I can be totally focused on it."
And in that hour, your dog will receive a brush out, a cleansing in the hydro massage bathing system, a blueberry facial, teeth freshening and its nails and ears will be clipped. If you desire a bow or bandana for that little something extra, that can be performed as well.
''Anything you might need is included in the price,'' Ellison said.
For now, Ellison is trying to remain within a 20-25 mile radius of St. Clairsville, servicing all of Belmont County and the greater Wheeling area across the river.
That allows her to maximize her time and service around six dogs per day.
And the best part for consumers? They don't even have to leave their homes.
Everything Ellison needs to style the dogs is right in the back of her spacious van. The full-sized tub can comfortably accommodate even the largest of dogs. And the dual 50-gallon tanks contain enough fresh water that Ellison can make it through an entire day's worth of work without needing to stop and refill.
She also believes it helps keep the animals at ease.
The van has windows so dogs are able to look outside the van and see their home, helping to ease any anxiety about being away from their masters.
"I did a large Airedale recently. He's young and very rambunctious,'' she said. "But he did excellent and was very well behaved. He can always look out the window and I think it helped with him. He acted up when he was brought to the shop, but he was able to look out and see that he was home.
"It's just a wonderful vehicle and I'm excited about everything it can do."
Ellison said she's had elderly customers who perhaps have trouble getting their dog to the groomers or parents of young children who didn't like to cart their dog plus energetic toddlers to the grooming shop.
No more coaxing the dog into the car. Having your dog professionally groomed is as simple as picking up the phone.
"I come right to the house, park in the driveway and I'm done in about an hour,'' Ellison said.
