By BETTY J. POKAS, Times Leader Area Editor MORE THAN 80 persons attended the recent St. Clairsville High School Combined Class Reunion for the years, 1933 through 1952, at the Belmont Hills Country Club. Those at the event were from California, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia. In Ohio, they came from 14 cities. Black and white were popular combinations for six women attending the reunion, and it’s unusual that they all arrived at about the same time at the registration table. The six women are Betty Linn Craig Hanlon, Class of 1939; Frances Wisnom Greig, 1944; Louise Glover Foster, 1944; Betty Yudasz Holubeck, 1944; Peggy Kozsuch Kuba, 1944; and Betty Barnes Davis, 1945. Attending from the Class of 1933 were Rosina Mills of St. Clairsville and Katherine Furbee Whinnery of Adena. The two 96-year-old women were presented with rose corsages by Betty Linn Craig Hanlon, who welcomed those attending the reunion. Classes with the most members attending were from 1944 with 10 members present; 1945, nine persons; 1946, nine present; and 1939, six attending. Frank Dopkiss and Emanuel Mehallis shared memories of school days. Serving as reunion officers were Dopkiss, Class of 1946, president; Richard Jenkins, 1949, vice president; Hanlon, 1939, treasurer; Betty Barnes Davis, 1945, secretary; and Mehallis, 1945, past president. Also serving on the committee were Jack Costine, 1942; Jean Diab Dopkiss, 1946; Jean Thornton McMahon, 1948; William O’Neil, 1936; Marceline Craig Swartz, 1940; and George Waddell, 1944. Committee members are from the St. Clairsville area except William O’Neil, who is from Coraopolis, Pa. Classes celebrating special years at this year’s reunion were 1936 (75th reunion), 1941 (70th reunion), 1946 (65th reunion) and 1951 (60th reunion). Dopkiss and Mehallis each commented and shared past memories of school days. Those wishing more information on the St. Clairsville Combined Class Reunions are to contact Dopkiss (740) 695-0670.
