ANDES, Philip Frank, 88, of Shadyside, died Monday, March 26, 2012 in Liza's Place, Wheeling WV.
Phil was born October 24, 1923 in Avella, PA, son of the late Phillip and Marie (Kirschner) Andes.
He was Safety Director for the former North American Coal Corporation, Mine Rescue Liaison for the State of Ohio, founder and owner of Andes Insurance Agency in Shadyside, OH.
Phil was an active volunteer in many civic affairs including Shadyside Lions Club, Boy Scouts of America, Shadyside Board of Trade, Salvation Army, Independent Insurance Agents of Belmont County, Ohio Independent Insurance Agents. He was an Ohio certified first aid instructor, a volunteer for 25 years with the Tennessee Williams Fine Arts Center, in Key West FL., was active his entire life in Pi Sigma Tau Fraternity and was a WWII Army Veteran.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were three brothers, Robert, Arthur and Edward Andes, and a sister, Marie.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Betty E. Andes; a son, Philip Andes and Suann Smith of Shadyside OH; a daughter, Nancy Andes and Jack Davis of Sacramento CA; two sisters, Nadine Staresinic of Cleveland OH and Delores "Pal" and Walter Pawloski of Shadyside OH; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received Friday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 p.m. at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside OH, where a celebration of Phil's life will begin at 11a.m. Saturday.
Interment will follow in Powhatan Cemetery, Powhatan Point, OH.
