AUTISM AWARENESS has never been at a higher level. Autism has spawned research, education and fundraising. The fundraising plays an integral role in enabling for enhanced education and research.
The Parents for Autism Community Education (PACE) organization does a tremendous job in the realm of helping spread the word on autism.
For PACE to carry on its worthwhile mission, it depends greatly on funds generated from the Awesome Autism 5K run and walk. The fourth annual event unfolds Saturday on the streets of Bellaire.
Funds generated from the race enables PACE to host free educational seminars and clinics on Autism. Twice a year, usually once during the fall and spring, PACE brings in speakers to conduct talks on Autism-related themes.
It has proven beneficial for parents, health care workers, first responders and educators in learning more about an affliction that seemingly keeps growing in frequency.
Dennis Delbert is the co-founder of PACE as well as race organizer. He has done a tremendous job in nurturing the race. The inaugural event had just 87 runners before jumping to 188 in 2010 and a whopping 300 last year.
More entrants means more funding to assist PACE's passionate and continuing crusade, one that is deserving of our support. This year's entries are coming in at a slower pace than Delbert would like. We challenge all local walkers, runners and those who cherish supporting beneficial causes to take part in the Awesome Autism 5K.
While helping PACE, the first 300 registered will receive t-shirts while a myriad of awards will be presented after the 3.1-mile jaunt. All those taking part will be winners as they will be helping by pumping needed money into PACE.
Approximately 1 in 100 American children are autistic which translates to 675,000 autistic children. That is a sizable segment of our youth.
For more information, call Delbert at (740) 671-1982 or to register, stop at the Runner's Connection in Bellaire to pick up an application form or complete it online at www.active.com.
The Awesome Autism 5K will be rewarding for entrants and PACE alike. We urge you to take part.
