St. John Central defeated Wheeling Central in four sets Tuesday night in girls high school volleyball action.
The scores were 25-11, 17-25, 25-12 and 25-16.
St. John Central stat leaders included: Kristen Russell seven points, four aces, 11 passes, two digs and 18 assists; Kaydie Coppa 10 points, six kills, three digs, 10 passes and 20 assists; Lindsee Perry seven points, seven kills, four digs, 17 passes, and two blocks; Caitlin Sliva five points, eight kills, four digs and eight passes; Jessica Alvey three points, 10 kills, two digs and eight passes; Sydney Helms 22 points, six aces and nine passes; Lindsey Froehlich three kills and two passes; and Amber LaMotte four digs and 12 passes.
rallies past Bellaire
The Purple Riders dropped the first set, but rallied back to take the next three in topping the Big Reds by scores of 25-27, 25-16, 25-23 and 25 18.
Cassie Hanson scored 22 points for Martins Ferry, while adding 19 assists, seven aces, seven digs and five kills. Shaina Oberdick added 15 kills, 10 points, two aces and a pair of digs. Shaye Deleonardis chipped in eight points, eight assists, four aces, three kills, a trio of blocks and two digs. Morgan Carpenter contributed six points, four aces and three assists. Tyrah King had seven kills and Jessie probst six kills and two points.
Bellaire (3-9) was led by Hunter Eden with 18 points, 19 digs, five kills and four blocks. Mackenzie Conroy added 17 points, 12 digs, six kills and three blocks. Tori Duffy had 16 points, nine assists and five digs, while Taylar Canter notched 13 points and 14 digs. Lindsey McMahon donated 11 points, seven digs, six assists, four kills and two blocks.
The Shamrocks (11-2) won by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 18.
Paige Gibbons had 15 assists, 13 points, a dozen digs, three kills and a pair of aces to lead the winners. Kelsey Douglas added 11 kills, six points, two assists, a pair of blocks and two digs. Miranda Plumly charted seven kills, four digs and two blocks. Hunter Weiss had 14 digs and eight points. Paige Huntsman added 11 assists, nine points, four kills and a trio of digs. Raquel Bahmer had seven kills, five digs and three blocks.
Leading the Bulldogs were Hannah Lewis with 21 digs, while Maclaine Murad added 18 points, five aces and two digs. Emily Nowakowski contributed six assists and five digs. Cheyenne Flowers added four kills and three points. Brianna Massey had three kills, a pair of blocks and two points.
The Blue Eagles captured a triangular match with the Seminoles and Jets.
Magnolia defeated Monroe Central 25-19 and 25-22.
Leading the Seminoles were Chelsie Tewanger with 27 digs, six kills and six points. Anne LaFollette added 19 digs and four kills. Melanie Stimpert charted nine assists, while Cameron Brock handed out seven helpers. Chelsie Roberts recorded five points.
Monroe Central topped Union Local 25-23, 21-25 and 25-23 as Roberts had 17 points, nine points, five assists and two blocks. LaFollette added 26 digs and eight kills. Amanda Haslam charted 39 digs and nine points, while Tewanger had 30 digs. Brock added six kills, six assists, five points and a pair of blocks. Stimpert had 14 assists.
Carly Schafer paced the Jets with 14 assists, 13 digs, seven points, three kills and three blocks. Kaylie Cole added 17 digs, five points and two kills. Shayla Otto scored 12 points and added eight digs and five kills. Sarah Sheppard had six kills, five blocks, four points and two digs. Gabby Smolenak charted nine digs and seven points, while Anna Nardo added seven assists and a trio of digs. Megan Nagy had eight digs, six kills and three blocks. Mikayla Patton added five kills and three blocks.
UL fell to Magnolia by scores of 26-24 and 25-22.
Schafer led the way with seven points, seven assists and three digs. Nagy had 13 digs, four kills and three points. Otto charted six points, five digs, five kills and three blocks. Sheppard added five kills and three digs, while Nardo had five assists and two kills. Patton had three blocks, two kills and two points.
The Warriors (8-5) won by scores of 25-7, 25-6 and 25-5.
Lynsey Beros set a school record with 14 aces in a match, while also tying the school record for points (25) in a match.
She also added 23 assists.
Kelsey Beros added 11 points, 10 kills and four digs. Josie Hensley had nine kills, five digs and three points. Ashlee Nichols added seven points and a trio of kills.
