THE IMPORTANCE of Railroads in the 1940s and in the years preceding World War II is demonstrated by this photo in Bellaire. Photographer Boyd Nelson, who did not snap this photo, reports it was taken prior to 1948. The train in the foreground is on the Great Stone viaduct, which was completed in1870 and was dedicated as a National Historic Monument in 1972 according to "An American Railroad Portrait: People, Places and Pultney" by Daniel L.
