Prep Volleyball Roundup: UL spikers earn key win

Union Local picked up a key OVAC victory Wednesday evening, improving to 11-8 with a three-game win against Steubenville. The Lady Jets prevailed 25-18, 26-24, 14-25 and 25-21.

Leading the way for the Lady Jets was Carly Schafer. She had 13 points, two aces, 15 digs, 24 assists, six kills and two blocks. Sarah Sheppard had nine points, six digs, nine kills and four blocks. Kaylie Cole had 17 digs. Gabby Smolenak had 18 digs. Megan Nagy had seven points, 15 digs and five kills.

Monroe sweeps Caldwell

Monroe Central improved to 13-2 on the season with a sweep of Caldwell, 25-6, 25-19 and 25-23.

The Lady Seminoles were led by Chelsie Roberts' seven kills, 17 points, 10 aces and 19 digs. Chelsie Tewanger had nine kills. Anne LaFollette donated six kills. Cameron Crock had 10 points, three aces, 12 assists. Amanda Haslam had nine points, two aces and 22 digs.

St. John edges Conotton Valley

St. John Central needed four games to post a victory against invading Conotton Valley Wednesday evening in Bellaire.

The Lady Irish prevailed by scores of 25-14, 18-25, 33-31 and 25-21.

The Lady Irish were led by Kristen Russell, who had 17 points, four kills, four digs, 17 assists and two blocks. Kaydie Coppa had 13 points, three aces and 15 assists. Lindsee Perry had nine points and seven kills. Caitlin Sliva added seven kills, 23 passes and two blocks. Jessica Alvey had eight kills.

St. John will celebrate senior night this evening with a triangular against Barnesville and Linsly.
