GRANIS, RosePrtljaga, passed away very peacefully on September 21, 2012 at Comforts of Home in Palm Desert, Calif. Rose was a previous resident of Cathedral City, Calif.
She was born on August 7, 1922, in Yorkville, OH, to George and Anna Prtljaga.
She was a graduate of the Ohio Valley Hospital School of Nursing and spent many years as a registered nurse in Weirton, WV, Chicago, Ill. and California. Rose took on a second career and life as the owner and proprietor of Desert Cab which held the franchise for Palm Springs and the surrounding valley. Rose was also instrumental in starting Dial a Cab for senior citizens in Rancho Mirage, and was awarded the Gold Medallion Award by the Mayor of Rancho Mirage. Palm Springs also honored Rose for First Class Citizenry for her providing a good, safe and dependable transportation service.
Rose loved bingo and this kept her active into her 90th year. She was a favorite of Agua Caliente when they had bingo and was a regular at Fantasy Springs. She always had a smile on her face and was a kind soul to all that she met. Rose is preceded in death by her parents and all of her brothers and sisters from the Prtljaga family of Yorkville; Metro and Mike Prtljaga, Mildred Stultz, Mary Horcher, Jean Cox, Daisy Sedgwick and Diane Jokovich.
She leaves behind her nephew, Michael Jokovich and his wife, Debra Jokovich who were like her own children. She also leaves behind a nephew, David Cox along with nieces, Barbara Ellis, Carol Stacks, Pat Polychron, Nancy Jokovich and Lynn Cook. She also leaves behind grand-nephews and nieces who truly loved being around her and will miss her comedy and wit on life. A private family service is being held for Rose, and the family asks that in memoriam donations be made to Family Hospice and Pallatitive Care, 255 North El Cielo Rd, Suite 300, Palm Springs, California. 92262.
