MITCHELL, Stephen Craig, 65, of West Chester, OH, died suddenly October 16, 2012.
He was born June 16, 1947 in Martins Ferry, OH, a son of Stephen and Mary (Bailer) Mitchell.
A graduate of St. John's High School (Bellaire) and Indiana Institute of Technology, Steve retired after 40 years from G.E. Aviation in Cincinnati. He was a pioneer and expert in designing aircraft engine parts with composite materials and held many patents in that field. After retirement, he continued working in composite design at the University of Dayton Research Institute.
A devoted Catholic, Steve was a loving husband, proud father and a grandfather who cherished spending time with his grandsons. He enjoyed golfing, driving his Auburn, photography, woodworking and building model trains. He touched many lives with his outgoing, humorous personality and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Zoe.
Steve is survived by his wife of 43 years, Martha (Rosswurm); two daughters Lisa Muller and Tara (Geoff) Armstrong; four grandsons, Kyle, Tyler, Max and Grant, all of West Chester; sister Melanie (Greg) Bromelow of Colerain; nephew, Derek (Natalie) Lampert of St. Clairsville; two aunts, Anne Tesniarz of Colerain and Helen Theil of Martins Ferry, as well as numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held Sunday 2-7 p.m. at Hodapp Funeral Home, 8815 Cincinnati-Columbus Road, West Chester, OH, and Mass on Monday at St. John Church with burial in West Chester, OH.
