A "Thank You" rally for United States Sen. Sherrod Brown and Ohio Sen. Lou Gentile is being planned for today at 3:30 p.m. at the Yorkville Volunteer Fire Department's hall on Market Street in Yorkville.
The event is being coordinated by the United Steelworkers of America Local 1223, Yorkville as a show of appreciation for the intensive effort put forward recently by these individuals, helping successfully address remediation of an unexpected EPA issue left unresolved by the outgoing owners of what was then RG Steel Yorkville.
Local union officials with the steelworkers have said Brown will be appearing to accept a message of thanks for his diligent work in resolving the environmental issues that were keeping the Yorkville facility from reopening.
"We will also be thanking Senator Lou Gentile at the same gathering, as he was our go to guy on the state level," said Jerry Conners, USWA Local 1223 president.
The event is open to the general public.
"We will also be thanking Senator Lou Gentile at the same gathering, as he was our go to guy on the state level, said the Yorkville Local's president.
"This is our opportunity to say thanks for all the work Senator Brown did on our behalf in mediating the environmental problems with the federal EPA. Without Senator Brown's support on the federal level, I doubt that these problems would have been abated in the short time span that they were,' said the Yorkville union official.
The local will also be saying "thanks" to Senator Lou Gentile, who like Sen. Brown, worked tirelessly on our behalf at the state level.
"Both these men went to bat for us, a small plant in south eastern Ohio, and both deserve our gratitude," offered Conners.
Its time to show up and support those who support us.
