ATV accident claims life of St. C. man

A ST. Clairsville man died from severe head injuries Sunday after crashing his all-terrain vehicle on TR 118 just off Ohio 9 in Smith Township. The accident happened at 5 p.m.

Justin Pytlak, 24, died in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center from trauma to his head. He was first transported to Wheeling Hospital by the Smith Township Emergency Squad, and then life flighted to UPMC, according to a spokesperson at the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Pytlak and a 19-year-old passenger, Kelsey Harris, of Morristown, were on the all-terrain vehicle when it collided with a deer. Both were ejected from the vehicle.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, neither were wearing helmets or seat belts. Harris was treated and released from the Ohio Valley Medical Center. She was transported by the Belmont Emergency Squad.

It is illegal to drive all-terrain vehicles on the road, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
