ST. CLAIRSVILLE - The Ohio Valley Christian Soldiers is a Christian-based charitable group that was formed in order to serve local groups who may need assistance.
Funds have been generated throughout the year via various fund-raising events such as the Jeffery Showalter Celebrity Golf Classic, Outback Divine Dinner Down Under and Knights of Columbus lottery ticket campaign.
Donations were also contributed from individuals and corporations, as well as other entities which support the OVCS's cause.
"The Ohio Valley Christian Soldiers' goal is to raise money in Christ's name and give that money to charities and other organizations that would use the funds wisely to put food on tables, purchase cribs and diapers for infants, medicine for children, or provide shelter for families in need," explained Jim Carnes, President of the Board of the OVCS.
"Our organization is prepared to accept and will intensely review any request for funds," he added. The OVCS wrote a total of $54K in donations this Monday at a Media Day event held in St. Clairsville at the Belmont Hills Country Club.
More than 30 different organizations received checks including A Special Wish Foundation, Belmont County Salvation Army, Bridgeport Friendship COC Food Pantry and Children's Christmas, House of Carpenter, Marine Toys for Tots, Lace Up for Kids, Wheeling Soup Kitchen and many more.
Since its inception eight years ago, the OVCS has donated more than $400K to the Ohio Valley. Recently, the group surpassed the 100-member mark and continues to grow.
"We are looking to provide the necessary help to our own local charitable entities located right here in the Ohio Valley. Our group is confident that the donations and the participation will be seen by local businesses and individuals who support this cause," Carnes added.
