STEUBENVILLE - Big things are expected out of the Bridgeport girls' basketball team this season, and the Lady Bulldogs didn't disappoint in their debut Monday night.

Head coach Rob Zitzelsberger watched him team bolt to a 12-5 lead after one period against host Steubenville Central. That would be the Crusaders' high-point mark as Bridgeport coasted to a 46-12 victory.

Maclaine Murad, a transfer from St. John Central, led the way for the Bulldogs with 14 points, which included an 8-for-8 performance from the charity stripe. Nicole Smolenak added a dozen markers.

Bridgeport tallied 36 rebounds as Murad and freshman Caitlyn Kroll grabbed nine each. Senior Brittany Higgenbotham had half-a-dozen. Smolenak charted seven steals.

The Bulldogs turned the ball over 16 times and shot 14 of 52 from the floor.

Bridgeport travels to Bellaire Thursday.
