HAMMOND, Orin Aubrey, 91, of 5881 Seibert Hill Rd. S.W. New Philadelphia, died peacefully Sunday, December 16, 2012, at 12:06 a.m. in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia after a brief illness.
Born February 13, 1921, in Belmont Count,y he was a son of the late Charles and Helen (Luyster) Hammond.
He was retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad and was a member of the Ragersville Zion United Church of Christ. He was an Army Veteran of WW II having served in the 8th Air Force as a bombardier. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 0573 at Brilliant, Ohio and was a Lifetime Charter Member of the WW II Memorial Society.
His wife, the former Elinor McCabe, preceded him in death on March 22, 1993.
Surviving are his daughter, Patricia (Robert) Wise of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren R. Todd (Stacee) Wise, Leanne J. (Michael) Wise- Helmke and Lynne Wise; four great-grandchildren, Kameron J. Wise, Neil R. Wise, Landon M. Helmke and McKalynne E. Helmke and two sisters, Betty Creamer of Bethel Park, Pa. and Jean Rydosz of Powhatten Point.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Kocher and four brothers- in-law, Vernon Kocher, William McMahon, William Creamer and Michael Rydosz.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday December 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Davis Cemetery on Winding Hill Rd. in Bellaire, OH. Rev. Edward Morrison and Rev. Bruce Halton will officiate.
The Brilliant Post 0573 of the American Legion will conduct military graveside honors.
The Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek is handling the arrangements.
