BELLAIRE - The JB Green Team board gave its approval Monday to sponsor a grant application from Electronic Recycling Service in Bellaire.
Anita Curry from ERS spoke before the board during Monday's monthly meeting to outline her company's intentions.
ERS is looking to apply for a 100-percent match market development grant through the Ohio EPA.
But because ERS is a for-profit company, it had to solicit the sponsorship of the JB Green Team in order to move forward.
"That's what I'm here to request," Curry said.
"In the past, you've done this with Valley Converting.
"The grant is due on Feb. 1."
Curry explained that since ERS begin recycling e-waste at its Bellaire facility in July, it's seen its monthly total run from 188,000 pounds in July to nearly 300,000 in October.
"We are producing so much material that we are having to have some shipped out at this point," Curry said.
"ERS is seeking the grant because it needs to expand its operation and purchase new equipment."
ERS is looking to construction a 4,000 square-foot expansion while also adding additional equipment to further expediate the recycling process.
"We're just asking for a letter of support," Curry said. "JB Green would oversee the funding of the grant as the application, but it is up to ERS to carry it out and supply the matching funds."
The board approved Curry's request with a unanimous vote.
Meyer did state that additional concrete work had to be done for the compactor. Once excavation began, the crew ran into issues with leveling.
Meyer requested and was approved for an additional $2,800 for that project.
He also mentioned that in the near future, he will explore seeking the funding for a fourth front-load packer truck.
Currently, three are in operation operating Monday through Friday. Meyer noted that there are five townships in Belmont County that are not being serviced and the addition of a fourth truck could help in that area, as well as eliminate Saturday runs.
"I'm not looking for money right now. But probably by the next meeting, I'll ask to consider the expenditure for a fourth truck," Meyer said.
