Shadyside's meat grind of a schedule continued Thursday evening with a lengthy trip to Parkersburg to take on South.
The Lady Patriots used a strong run in the second quarter and then held on to post a 68-63 victory against the Lady Tigers, who drop to 3-4 on the season.
Shadyside led 14-9 late in the first, but a South trey trimmed it to 14-12. The Lady Patriots then proceeded to outscore the Belmont Countians 20-6 in the fourth.
The Lady Tigers clawed back with a 17-11 third and a 26-25 fourth period, but it wasn't enough.
Shadyside, which hit for 10 triples in the game, was led by senior all-Ohioan Karli Bonar, who had 23 points, including seven treys. Senior running mate Hayley Holenka added 17 points. Junior Toni Andes notched 10 markers.
South was led by Keya Bartlett, who scored 24 points. Taryn McCutcheon had 22 points.
The Lady Tigers return to the court Saturday evening at home against Monroe Central in a 6 p.m. contest.
UNION LOCAL 53, BARNESVILLE 27
Homestanding Union Local remained hot, winning its seventh game in 10 tries Thursday by virtue of a 53-27 victory against rival Barnesville.
The Lady Jets built a 14-8 lead after one and upped it to 26-12 at the intermission. They didn't let up in the second half, outscoring Barnesville 27-15.
The Lady Jets received strong scoring from junior standout Cori Medley, who went for 16 points. Senior Kayla Doty continues to play well despite a knee injury. She had 11 points.
Barnesville was led by Marissa Burga's nine points and Shaela Markovich's eight.
BUCKEYE LOCAL 63, EDISON 33
After dropping its first seven games of the season, Buckeye Local won for the second time in as many nights, posting a Buckeye 8 triumph against Edison, 63-33.
Coach Willy Luther's team shot out to a 16-8 lead after one period and never looked back, leading 38-16 at the half and 52-20 after three chapters.
Senior Kayla Fillipovich led all scorers in the game with 19 points. Lauren Swiger had 12 tallies, while Becky Zeroski added 11 points.
Edison was paced by Molly McCoy's 17.
Fillipovich completed the double-double with 12 rebounds.
SHENANDOAH 66, BEALLSVILLE 45
AT SARAHSVILLE, invading Beallsville struggled at the line and headed back to Monroe County unhappy after falling, 66-45 to the Lady Zeps.
The Lady Blue Devils trailed just 13-10 after one and 31-24 at the intermission. Shenandoah proceeded to outscore the visitors 36-21 in the second half for the final reading.
Coach Rick Jarrett's squad was just 4-of-19 from the foul line.
Ashlee Wuckelich led the Lady Zeps with 18 points. Blake Hall had nine points and a game-high 17 rebounds for the winners.
Mikayla Headley scored 22 points to pace Beallsville. Madison Stephen had 11. Katie Kinney had nine boards and six points.
Shenandoah held a 39-21 edge on the boards and both teams were charted for 21 turnovers.
MONROE CENTRAL 79, CALDWELL 19
AT WOODSFIELD, it was over early as Monroe Central raced to a 28-3 lead after one and went on for a 79-19 victory against invading Caldwell.
The Lady Seminoles (7-3) led 51-9 at the half.
Senior standout Chelsie Roberts had 23 points to lead all scorers, while Chelsie Tewanger had 18 tallies. Laycie Ball added 10, while Amanda Haslam notched eight points.
Roberts stuffed the stats sheet to a tune of six rebounds, nine steals and five assists.
Monroe Central visits Shadyside Saturday evening.
E. RICHLAND CHRISTIAN 35,
COSHOCTON CHRISTIAN 24
AT COSHOCTON, East Richland Christian earned a 35-24 victory Thursday evening.
The Lady Lions were led by Hannah Stephens and Hannah Surface, who evenly split 18 points.
FRONTIER 58, BRIDGEPORT 47
AT BEAVERTON, Bridgeport fell to 2-5 on the season by virtue of a 58-47 setback at Frontier.
The Bulldogs found themselves trailing 12-10 after one and watched the Cougards score 17 of the 21 second-quarter points. Bridgeport battled back with a 22-16 final quarter, but the hole was too deep.
Bridgeport was led by Q.J. Williams, who scored 21 points. Dallas Fields and Jonathan Kreiter each had 12 points in top support.
Jordan Jefferson led the Cougars with 16 points.
