WOODSFIELD - Justin Isaly, a River High School graduate, was sworn in to fill the Switzerland of Ohio Local Board of Education position that opened up on Nov. 21 after Rob Caldwell resigned to take the position of principal at Sardis and Hannibal Elementary.
Isaly, a Powhatan native, said he wanted to take this position as a way to give back to the kids and the community.
"I feel at the same time, I can win people's trust and bring this levy, which is at the utmost important thing right now on our agenda, get that passed so that the children have the opportunities to succeed and prosper at the high school," said Isaly, a father of two.
"(Isaly) will be a good asset to the board," said Board President Ron Winkler.
In other action?Thursday, the board decided whether students of River High School were going to stay in the Hannibal-based school during the rest of the construction or were going to be moved to the Swiss Hill Vocational campus.
At Swiss Hills, the River students would be housed in the module trailers that were once occupied by Monroe Central High School students.
As of right now, the students will stay at River High School, unless the heating system fails to work or the air quality doesn't meet the set standards.
The board announced that there was a heating system installed and has been improving. According to Mark Ring, director of support services, the permanent heat is coming on and piped hot water heat will also be used, but this heat is uncontrollable.
Another factor in students staying at River includes an air-quality check. The Bureau of Worker's Compensation, which is industrial hygienist, will run an air quality check in the first week of January. They will accommodate age range and use OSHA standards.
"Safety is the number one concern of the board," said board treasurer Lance Erlwein.
Ring also gave an update of the schools.
He said that Beallsville has been completed and recently had an 11-month walk thru. Every school will have an 11-month walk thru. Most of the things that needed to be touched up and finished have been completed.
Woodsfield and Monroe Central are having problems with spring water on the pavement coming from below and the hill side. River High School is heavily into phase 1 and partially into phase 2.
There have been roofs leaking, which the contractors will pay to fix the leaking roofs and anything that was damaged by the from the leaks in the roofs.
