FORRO, John F., 88, of New Philadelphia, OH, formerly of Jewett, OH, was born in Elm Grove, Wheeling, WV., on May 30, 1924, the son of th late Steven and Hermina Kiss Forro.
John was also preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Forro; a sister, Mary Boros and a nephew, Daniel Boros.
John was a graduate of the Dillonvale High School, Class of 1942. Shortly after graduation, John enlisted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a private from March 19, 1943 until Aug. 12, 1944.
After the military, John went to work for Norfolk Southern Railroad. He retired in 1982 after 32 years of service. While there, he worked as a clerk and supervisory agent.
He had been very active in the Jewett area all his life. John had been the mayor of Jewett, member of the fire department, the Jewett Ruritans, the Dillonvale American Legion, local and state boards of the MRDD, and a long-time member of the Jewett Presbyterian Church, where he had been a deacon and elder for many years before transferring to the Bethel Methodist Church.
Some of John's hobbies were fishing, golfing, bowling, painting in water colors, Little League Baseball. For several years, he worked for the Blackburn Funeral Homes.
John was a loving husband and father to his wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Bolitho) Forro of New Philadelphia, OHo, and a son, Jeffrey Steven Forro of Columbus, OH. He is also survived by three sisters- in-law: Nancy (George) Barnes of New Philadelphia, OH, Brenda (Robert) Fowler of New Philadelphia, OH and Karen (Samuel) Newell of Cadiz, OH; and several nieces and nephews, Steven (Barbara) Boros of Indiana, Sandra Fliger of Hartville, OH, Paul (Donna) Forro of Dillonvale, OH, Tom (Marge) Kasmar of Lafferty, OH, John (Peggy) Forro of Adena, OH, and Sonny (Marlene) Forro of Medina, OH.
Friends may call at the Blackburn Funeral Home at 416 E. Main St. in Jewett, OH on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with services there on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rodney Bowers and the Rev. LuAnn Youngman officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, near Jewett.
