Prep Basketball Roundup: Harrison Central girls thump Weir

It was raining three's in Cadiz Thursday night as Harrison Central knocked down 11 goals from beyond the bonus arc en route to a 65-37 pasting of visiting Weir inside the John W. Stephenson Center.

Junior Jess Ledger had seven of the treys - all coming in the second half. She hit four of them to spark a 19-11 third quarter surge that gave the Huskies (5-5) a 49-29 advantage.

Ledger and teammate Katie Ellzy each finished with a game-high 21 points, while Kara Dunfee added 13.

Harrison Central, which travels to Newcomerstown, Saturday afternoon, has won four straight.

The Huskies JVs also won, 39-26.

River 56, Buckeye Trail 31

At Hannibal, the Lady Pilots (8-2) didn't waste any time in jumping all over the visiting Warriors inside the R.L. Potts Gymnasium as they led 23-5 after one period and 33-12 at the half.

Laken Ramsay pumped in a dozen points to lead the winners, while freshman Jensen Caretti added 10 points and a like number of rebounds. Haylee Bowers chipped in nine counters.

River led 31-17 off the glass.

The Pilots travel to St. Clairsville Saturday afternoon.

Frontier 72, Ballsville 44

At Beallsville, the hosts fell on tough times in the second half and Frontier took full advantage in racing to a 72-44 victory Thursday evening.

The Lady Blue Devils found themselves down 38-32 at the intermission, but watched the Lady Cougars (6-4) score 21 of the 24 points in the third quarter and never looked back in the fourth.

Madison Stephen and Katey Kinney each had 12 points to lead Beallsville. Mikayla Headley scored 10 points. Kinney had 14 rebounds. Stephen had a solid floor game with four assists and five steals.

Beallsville is now 3-9 on the season and will host Barnesville on Thursday.

BOYS

Ridgewood 76, St. John 47

Zak Keesee scored 26 points to lead a trio of double-digit scorers as Ridgewood posted an impressive 76-47 victory over homestanding St. John Central Thursday night in boys' high school basketball action on Guernsey Street.

D.J. Shoemaker poured in a team-high 22 points for the Irish (1-6), including a 13-for-15 effort from the free-throw line. Garrett Holubeck added eight and John Alvey six.

St. John Central hosts Paden City Saturday afternoon.
