COLEMAN, Joseph Calvin

COLEMAN, Joseph Calvin, 87, of St. Clairsville, OH, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling.

He was born October 17, 1925, in Midway, a son of the late Walter Sherman Coleman and Nellie Jane McConnell Coleman.

He was a retired agent and operator for B&O Railroad, a farmer, an associate of Coleman Machine, a member of East Richland Evangelical Friends Church, a graduate of St. Clairsville High School, and a U.S. Navy radioman 2nd Class serving in the South Pacific during World War II.

Joe loved his family and family gatherings, listening to the Coleman Family gospel and bluegrass band, gardening and spending time with his grandson, Brian.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Coleman, and a great- granddaughter, Dugan Davis.

Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret Jean "Peg" Shambaugh Coleman; six children: James (Judy) Coleman, Marjorie (Tom) Josefczyk, Kenny (Teri) Coleman and Judith (Kirke) Porterfield, all of St. Clairsville, JoAnne (Dan) Gerlach of Charlotte, N.C., and Donald (Veronica) Coleman of Canonsburg, PA.; a sister, Helen (Robert) Fordyce of Jacksonville, TX.; sister-in-law Phyllis Coleman of St. Clairsville; 22 grandchildren: Tami Stephens Davis, Becky Coleman Massey, Jacob Coleman, Joel, Heidi, and Jared Gerlach, Amanda Kadlecek Blust, Anita Kadlecek, and Brian Josefczyk, Melanie, Mindy, Jill and Kim Coleman, Deniece Coleman Massey, Emily, Joey, and Ben Coleman, Douglas, Mark, Brian, Kevin, and Blake Porterfield; and eight great- grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. and on Sunday from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Friends will then be received at the East Richland Friends Church on Monday from noon until time of service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Wenger and the Rev. Wayne Ickes officiating. Burial follows in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

Full military honors will be provided by the Belmont County Council of American Legions at 1 p.m. Monday in the church.
