HELMS, Gene I. Sr., 81, of Neffs, OH, died Monday, January 14, 2013, in Cumberland Pointe Care Center.
He was born in Clarksburg, OH, on October 13, 1931, son of the late Walter and Hazel Covey Helms.
Gene was a retired die setter from Wheeling Stamping. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and had a love for music. Gene was a member of Clarksburg United Methodist Church; a member of Neffs American Legion Post 77; Glencoe Senior Center and the NRA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffrey and Richard Helms.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Holub Helms; three sons, David Helms of Bellaire, Steven (Kathryn) Helms of Barnesville and Gene (Sue) Helms Jr. of Jacobsburg; a daughter, Susan (Tim) Saffell of Flushing; a sister, Gloria Sadlowski of Neffs; a nephew, Randy Sadlowski of Shadyside; 10 grand children; 13 great grand children.
Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Larry Helms officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Belmont County Council of American Legions on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home.
