In a showdown of OVAC 3-A heavyweights, frontrunning Buckeye Trail toppled River's Pilots by a 60-48 count Tuesday night at Old Washington.
Trail, which avenged a previous loss at Hannibal, led 12-8 after one period and 34-23 at halftime. River faced a 48-34 deficit after three periods of play.
The winners received a 19-point outing from Zach Roe. Junior Josh Toland totaled 15 points and nine rebounds. CJ Beaver provided 10-point support. Jordan Indermuhle contributed eight points and a like number of rebounds.
River, which connected on but 18-of-58 shots from the floor, was led by Brett Price's 16-point performance. Matt Marconi was next, netting a dozen markers.
Trail, coverting 20 of its 41 field goal attempts, improves to 11-4 while River fell to 13-4.
Shenandoah 57, Shadyside 49
AT Sarahsville, the host Zeps mounted a 29-19 halftime lead before Shadyside rallied back within 40-38 after three rounds. The hosts converted a number of key free throws down the stretch, finishing 22-of-27 from the stripe.
Danny Neuhart produced a 24-point performance for the winners. Teammate James Luyster provided 12-point support. The victory lifted Shenandoah to 8-8 on the season.
Shadyside's Skyler Gibson topped the Orange with 16 points. Austin Dorris donated a double-double, scoring 14 points and landing a game-leading 11 rebounds. Tuesday's setback leaves Shadyside with a 8-9 record.
Buckeye Local 64, Edison 50
AT Richmond, invading Buckeye Local broke open a close game in the second quarter. The Buckeye 8 foes were deadlocked at 13 following one period before the Panthers used a 20-6 second stanza uprising for 33-19 halftime command.
Kyle Michalo connected for a game-leading 24 points and was joined in double digits by Panther teammates Brennan Czuchran (13) and Johnny Rozenek (10).
St. John Central 54, East Richland Christian 49
AT Bellaire, St. John's came off a 25-25 halftime tie to upend the Lions. The Irish used a 18-8 third period pullaway for 43-33 command before prevailing and improving to 7-12.
DJ Shoemaker scored a team-leading 25 points for the Irish who also received a dozen markers from Kyle Imer.
East Richland's Joel Mott produced a game-leading 27-point performance. Teammate Logan Lish provided 14-point support.
Cameron 80, Beallsville 60
AT BEALLSVILLE, Hunter Chambers pumped in 24 points and Logan Routt added 11 points, 11 rebounds, eight blocks and eight assists as Cameron surprised Beallsville.
Mark Walker contributed 23 points and seven assists to the Dragons effort.
The Blue Devils' Teryn Jarrett tied for game-high honors with 24, while Kyle Groves scored 14. Tristan Palmer added 11 points.
Magnolia 98, Monroe Central 58
NEW MARTINSVILLE - Preston Boswell led five double-figure scorers with 21 points as Magnolia (11-4) outscored Monroe Central (10-5) by a 36-9 count in the third quarter on its way to a rout.
Mark Winters added 20 points for the Blue Eagles, while Spencer Campbell and Stephen Rogalski checked in with 18 and 17, respectively. Zach Wilhoite rounded it out with 10 points.
Cameron Jorris' 14 points led the Seminoles.
Shenandoah 50, River 44
AT Hannibal, the Lady Zeps rallied in the final eight minutes to overtake River and avenge a previous loss at Sarahsville.
River was a 14-9 leader after one period. The hosts remained on top 24-16 at halftime and 33-27 after three panels before Shenandoah used a 23-11 fourth quarter comeback to pull out the decision.
Rachel Rossiter (13) and Kasey King (11) combined to pace the victory. Lady Pilots' freshman Jensen Caretti tallied 15 points and landed nine rebounds. Cassidy McCullough scored 11 points. Laken Ramsay distributed five assists.
River led in rebounds (37-30) and turnovers (22-14). The Lady Pilots are now 15-5.
